Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay

Visiting Golden Gate Park and the Golden Gate Bridge is like international travel. You hear many languages, and see folks from many different countries. Girls from India dressed in brightly colored saris flowing on the breeze. Young German men with eyeglasses. Old couples walking slowly, speaking Russian. Everybody has a camera and an I-phone.

We went to see the Picasso exhibit at the de Young Museum, and then joined the throngs enjoying the gardens in the excellent weather. You can pay to get into the Botanical and Tea Gardens, and we'll do that too someday, but for now there is plenty of beauty for the taking of a leisurely stroll.

We never get used to the view. It's spectacular every time. After a brief stroll to the first tower with crowds of tourists and bikers, we take it all in and snap a few photos ourselves. I keep thinking of the Otis Redding song recorded three days before his death in a plane crash in 1967. Maybe you know it too.

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when when the evenin' come
watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
watching the tide roll away
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
wastin' time . . . .

What a great way to end a Summer!
I hope you have some nice views too!
Ciao! for now!
