Seeing Vintage in a New Light

The east morning light softens in early fall in a gentle transition to a new season.

You can almost forgive summer for slipping silently away without saying goodbye.

It all puts me in a vintage mood. But when am I not???

I wanted to share a few new vintage finds in their best light.

The newcomers here are the sundae glasses, and the creamware domed lid. You just have to accept that there will often be only three of something, and that an orphaned lid is something of a miracle. It's so often the other way around, finding things without lids!

I've never seen this shape in the glasses before, and they are so sinuous and sexy that I'll probably use them for champagne. I may even pretend that they're French!

The last newcomer is a lovely huck towel with my daughter's initials on it. She has a birthday coming up. What fabulous timing!

My heart just beats faster when I mix these colors and textures!

The tracery of fine embroidery on utilitarian huck cloth is an example of a beautiful irony in vintage things. Making the plainest of things exquisite.

The supporting cast is all vintage too, except for the cloche, and the reproduction apothecary pot under glass. But vintage things make them all feel at home.

I hope your enjoying a little change in scene!
Ciao! for now!

Jacqueline

  9. You have such gorgeous vintage treasures. The vintage linen with your daughters initials is beautiful. The who vignetee is so soothing, but I usually I have feeling when surrounded by vintage beauties.

Do you know that your Sundae Glasses were a treat to my eyes~I have not seen them since last served a sundae in one from my great Aunt Clara's collection from her ice cream shop nearly 50 yrs. ago when I was a mere child.
Thanks so much for the fond memory~~~now, I wonder what ever happened to those glasses?

  19. The initialed linen piece is so beautiful. I cannot stop buying vintage linens and why should I? The orphaned lid is also wonderful. I usually find things sans lid too. Have a glorious fall weekend. ♥O

  21. I adore the soft pinks of the lilies against the green, what lovely vignettes you made to photograph some super finds.

  22. Such beautiful finds and as always your vignettes are delightful. As for those glasses, I think you may have gotten your hands on some French Absinthe glasses...you know the mystical alcoholic potion that was banned for so many years here in the US and in France. There is a renewed fascination with this potion and all of the wonderful props that go with the ritual of indulging in it...have you ever seen the fountains?! Quite a few reproduction glasses floating around now...I found two last week at a thrift store...mine are marked France and repros by the Absinthe museum in France...yours could be antique! Either way your glasses must be special because of the way they are "speaking" to you. On another note, I never knew what that wonderful waffle like fabric was called..."Huck"...thanks for enlightening me!

  23. jacqueline,
I love your creamware. I I love how you said summer slips away. That is how it feels. I used to never find summer to fall a problem because I so loved fall. But, now it does seem to slip away. Thank you for joining me at Home Sweet Home!
