A New Transferware Platter & A Giant Basket

I'm showing a new platter today, and telling about a fabulous gigantic vintage basket I found a few days ago. As usual I have a few props to help me out.

My linen and lace runners are never far from the center of things. I always have linens stacked in a few places ready for action. Ironstone pitchers too.

I love the pastels mixed in with the browns on this new vintage/antique platter. It demonstrates well the conflict I have between dark and light colors in my home. I'm sure I'll always have both elements.

But I'm really excited to show you my new monster basket. I'm going to give you some scale, but you  won't be able to see how truly enormous it is until you see it in person.

I have thrown my "cutter" mantel cloth over the edge in contemplation of making a liner.

Right now the only place this basket fits is under my dining room table. It is far too large to be placed anywhere in my house but on the floor. That's probably why it was practically free.  But I can see keeping piles of tablecloths and towels in it there. Or pillows and blankets in one of the bedrooms.

I also just gave the top of my dining room cupboard a long past due revamp. It all started with the recent rooster party. My hen and rooster lived up there alongside a ton of stuff that somehow ended up taking up space and gathering dust. I really needed the space for larger scaled things like wicker bottles, cloches, and more baskets and linens that are in use often enough not to get dusty. Wish me luck with that. . . .

Thanks for looking and listening! I'll meet you over at
 for more Show & Tell!

Ciao! for now!

Jacqueline

  5. I love that platter! Such gorgeous colours in it. I have never seen a basket that large! I would have had to pass on that one as I'd have no room for it. It would make great storage though. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  21. Jacqueline, not only is your basket spectaclar but I just spent so much time oogling everything in your photos including the floor and brick wall. I just love it all. Your basket will be a fabulous place to store linens. I have a very large basket very similar to yours I bought at auction a million years ago. It had been upstairs storing toys until the grand girls visited. I just had to repot a giant peace lily and that basket was the only container I had that would work for it. So now my basket in back in the family room and has a pretty happy plant in it. Have a wonderful weekend. xo

  32. Jacqueline, your new platter is beautiful! And the basket would definitely be perfect with pillows and blanket in a guest room - especially after you make a beautiful liner with your cutter piece. I love that idea! It gives such a pretty softness to contrast with the "rustic" of the basket. Love it!

  35. Love that large basket!! I have a large laundry basket that has no home, either. It comes out at Christmas and hides in the closet the most of the year; so I know what you mean about not fitting anywhere. :-) Gorgeous ironstone pattern, with the browns and the pinks and blues. And as usual, the use of linens is so pretty. Where did you find that wicker cloche? I am on the lookout, even for new vs. vintage. No luck, so far. Hope ABQ weather isn't hot right now. It's cooled down here, thank goodness, and actually feels like a NM fall. :-) Sue
