A Late Summer Tablescape

I've brought out a tablecloth that still feels summery to me, but that also gives a nod to fall. The daisies and flowers reflect what's happening in my own yard.

I have a soft spot for hand embroidered linens because I appreciate all the work involved. But I also love the colors of this one.

I'm also bringing out a little apple motif as a table decoration. The little knob on the lid repeats the color in the cloth.

It didn't occur to me how well my vintage Chippendale pattern plates by Royal would coordinate with the cloth until I laid it on the table. But the patterns seem made for each other.

I was thinking of using this bird graphic for paper napkin rings. I'm sure I actually will sometime, but I am just not much of a napkin ring decorator. I'm using them in the glasses instead. They could easily adapt to a menu card or place cards.

I like using cake stands to vary the heights on a table and to show more of the cloth. I like the creamy color of this one.

Napkins are from this season Pottery Barn. They are wonderfully soft and so versatile.

Vintage ironstone platters decorate the center of the table while letting the tablecloth be the star of the show.

I love mix and match vintage flatware. Even better with a monogram!

The similarities in the design of the dishes and the linen is kinda fun.

I hope you're enjoying these last weeks of summer!
Ciao! for now!

Jacqueline

  10. This is such a "transitional" tablecloth. Perfect for late Summer, yet not Fall, look. What did I never think to use cake plates to hold platters to more of a view of the cloth? Here again, I visit your blog and leave with such inspiration. I find this tablescape soothing, makes me remember those "Indian Summer" days in the NE where I grew up. Blessings,
    Lynn

  28. Oh, I just love that tablecloth. It is so lovely! I thought of you as I was looking through an antique store the other day. I picked up some vintage napkins because I just love your linens. One day, I will add some more things. I got some of those napkins from PB too. Your tables always appeal to me - so classic, elegant but not fussy. I, too, love vintage silverware.

  40. Hi Jacqueline...

Ohhh...I always LOVE coming to your place! My friend, you do have the prettiest things! Your embroidered tablecloth is just gorgeous! I totally agree with you...I fully appreciate all of the work and time that goes into embroidering such a piece. The pattern and thread colors are lovely...like you said...a transition between summer and autumn. Your white ironstone looks lovely with the cloth but ohhh...your Chippendale dishes wonderfully compliment the cloth! Sooo...sooo pretty! I also like the bird prints...they look pretty just rolled up and dropped into the stems! I sooo enjoyed this gorgeous table, Jacqueline...thank you so much for sharing it with us!

I also would like to thank you for coming by and taking a peek at my french studio! Your visit and sweet, sweet note sure brightened my day, dear lady!

    Warmest summery wishes,

  42. Jacqueline, What a pretty tablecloth and I love the plates. I have a weak spot for anything monogrammed so of course I adore the silver flatware. Thanks for sharing at the Open House party and I hope you have a great weekend.

  43. Hi, Jacqueline!!! No, no, no!!! You're not bidding summer adieu already, are you??!?!?! Although I must say it has been so unnaturally hot & humid that I can't blame you. I think we will all welcome autumn with open arms this year. Beautiful setting! So soft and airy. I agree with you...the bird paper would make great menu cards. You could attach a vellum overlay and have yourself one heck of a gorgeous deal!!!
