The Lilac Season

Weathered oak and zinc are the perfect foil for my lilac blooms. The delicate color and constitution of the petals intensifies against the gray.

The flowers have reached the perfect stage for cutting. And they have such a heavenly scent! I don't have a lush flower garden, and so these few blooms over such a short season feel like a spring holiday to me.

I can look out onto this east patio from the heart of the house, so I'll enjoy the few stems I've cut for as long as they last.

The mornings are already warm. It's the best part of the day since our spring winds have started up and drive us all crazy by afternoon.

There are just these few moments to savor a cup of coffee and peruse a pretty magazine before the daily rush begins. So much for a spring holiday!

I hope you get blooming holiday too!
Ciao! for now!

  3. Beautiful...I love them in the galvanized watering cans. Every spring I plan to plant a bush or two and then become consumed by buying flowers and plants. I see yours and wish I had gotten around to it!! Your pretty tea vignette is lovely, too!

    Have a great weekend!

  9. You have no idea how much I would love to have a lilac bush! They are really not suited for the Dallas area, but my mother would talk of one she played under as a girl further north of Dallas. The scent is just unbelievable.
    Gorgeous photos.

  11. I love how you've displayed the lilac. We have a tree that does really well, but I don't cut the flowers for inside because they give me bad hayfever. So, I'm thinking out in the pergola would be good.

  16. Jacqueline, One of the most beautiful things on this earth are lilacs. They look gorgeous, smell divine and are the most delicate color (at least the traditiona ones). Ours won't bloom for another month, so thanks for sharing yours! I can almost smell them from here!

  17. Enjoy them as long as you can. I'm not sure why I thought that lilacs wouldn't grow well in New Mexico? I guess I just think of them as being so hardy in cold weather.

  19. Your spring lilacs are very pretty against the weathered silver colour of the watering cans.
I have several lilacs and love to inhale their fragrance. We have a lot of wild lilacs growing along the country roads and I always go and cut big bouquets for indoors.
